Here’s the dilemma: You love your two-seater supercar so much you want to drive it everywhere, every day. But this type of automobile isn’t exactly configured for long hauls. Whatever will you do when it’s time to hit the beach or the mountains or the vineyard for the weekend?

McLaren kindly provided a remedy to this plight with the introduction of its new GT, a two-seater with all the sleek styling and powerful performance for which the brand is known, in a more usable configuration that increases the interior space and storage and essentially turns the car into a grand turismo.

From a performance standpoint, the GT puts up more than respectable numbers: 0–60 miles per hour (mph) in 3.1 seconds, 124 mph in nine seconds flat, topping out at 203-mph top speed. The new, twin-turbo V8 engine also boasts 620 horsepower. But the car is being lauded also for its plush, inviting interiors. Napa leather—with cashmere being talked about as a future option(!) Adjustable, supportive, heated seats. A new, seven-inch infotainment system. And, an optional electrochromic glass roof (The standard model comes topped with a black carbon fiber panel).

Now, the company has added a four-piece bespoke luggage collection that was specially designed by McLaren Special Operations to fit perfectly into the GT’s storage areas, and which might just be the final piece that steers buyers away from the Ferrari Portofinos and Aston Martin DB11s of the supercar world.

“Developed together by McLaren Automotive’s design and engineering teams and a luggage specialist, the four-piece set maximizes the McLaren GT’s capacious luggage space and includes made-to-measure storage solutions for golf clubs,” McLaren said in a release.

Yes, capacious. The McLaren GT includes more than 20.1 cubic feet of storage space; that’s more storage capacity than many a full-size sedan, let alone a two-seater supercar. Most of that—nearly 15 cubic feet—is in the rear of the vehicle. This space, under the lift-up glass tailgate, can accommodate the full-size golf bag as well as two cabin bags. A deep storage area in the front of the vehicle is made possible thanks to the car’s mid-engine configuration.

The four-piece collection is priced at $15,400, however pieces can also be purchased individually; The garment case will set you back $2,300; the weekend duffle, $2,500; the cabin bag, $3,800; and the golf bag, $6,800. Each piece in the collection is “hand-assembled by specialists in Italy, using the same soft and supple semi-aniline leather and stitch pattern that adorns the interior of the McLaren GT,” said the company. “Three colors are available: Pioneer Black, Luxe Black and Luxe Porcelain. In addition, stitching and piping colorways complement the GT’s two trim levels and exterior colors.

The McLaren GT is priced from $210,000, and will start delivering by year-end. The McLaren GT Luggage Set will begin taking orders this month through McLaren retailers.
